Classic Style - Modern Technology
Evergreen Boats was founded by Matt Tucker with the intention of creating traditionally styled sailing and rowing boats, as well as building materials for DIY boat building, using modern eco-friendly composite techniques and materials.
By using flax, cork and bio resins, the look and feel of timber (Flaxwood) can be created but with all the benefits of a modern composite.

Superior Strength - Low maintenance
Flax and cork when impregnated with high quality bio resins has superior mechanical properties when compared to wood.
It will not rot and when combined with an eco-friendly gelcoat requires virtually no maintenance other than a polish occasionally if desired.
It can also be coated with timber oil for a more natural look although it is not required for protection.

High performance - Eco friendly
Flaxwood not only perform as well as other composites when used in the right application, but is renewable and carbon negative.
All waste flax and cork is biodegradable and worker conditions are vastly improved without dealing with harsh synthetic fibres and toxic resins.

A comparison between materials
This comparison is simplified to give you a general idea of the difference between these materials.
For example a timber boat can come in a huge variety of timber types and construction methods that vary all of these parameters substantially. A hard chine home build plywood dinghy is not going to be the same as a balsa cored boat or a Huon Pine hand crafted masterpiece.
If you would like to discuss the pros and cons of different materials and whether our boats are right for you, get in touch. I am more than happy to discuss this complex and very circumstantial topic.
